January has given me a few thankful weeks to work on my bathroom at home. I managed to install a shower which was fun. I’d already tiled the area, installed the cubicle and put the waste pipe in place last year. All that was left was fitting the shower unit plumbing it in and adding laying down the electrical cable. The cable was the hard part as it had to go 15 metres through the house and I didn’t want any conduits visible. I routed it through stud walls, under floor boards and through a wooden banister – I ended up having to cut through plaster boards galore and then repair them. Though I had to leave fixing it into the consumer unit and signing it off to an electrician!
I’ve tried to keep the bathroom minimalist except for the world map feature. The tiled border is matched to the map. For years I’ve had maps in bathrooms and always found it a great place for lying in a bath and contemplating the world. Islands I’ve never heard of, huge tracts of lands where no one seems to live, chasms in the sea bed… I could spend hours looking at maps.
I’d bought the map to fit the space. It was laminated but I still needed to key the back with sandpaper and paste it down using marouflage techniques. A very small job really considering some the murals I’ve installed!
