Paint Effects

I think a sound understanding of colour theory and the use of glazes in oil painting has proved invaluable in working with specialist paint finishes. Over the past 25 years, I’ve experimented with various products and mediums, and can now replicate any traditional oil finish with modern water-based paints. These have the benefit of a colour fastness that oil paints do not possess whilst having no adverse effects on the environment.

I’ve replicated many finishes over the years such as wood graining, stone finishes, colour glazes, marble, metal patinas, ceramic tiles, gold and metal leaf, leather and polished plaster to name a few.

As with the disciplines of murals painting and trompe l’oeil effects, I think there is significant cross-over. Some of the work I feel is most successful, is where interior (or exterior) decoration seamlessly blends all of these disciplines into a harmonious visual language.
